How to Measure for Custom Curtains & Shades
Accurate measurements are the foundation of a better custom fit. Use this guide to record your window or door dimensions before selecting a LANTIME curtain, Roman shade, roller shade, vertical blind, or sliding-panel treatment.
Before you measure
- Measure every window or door separately, even when openings appear identical.
- Use a rigid metal tape measure where possible.
- Record measurements as width × height.
- Write down the exact measurements before applying any product-specific allowances or deductions.
- Decide whether the treatment will mount inside the opening, outside the opening, on a wall, ceiling, track, or rod.
Inside-mount shades and blinds
Measure the inside width at the top, middle, and bottom of the opening. Measure the height at the left, center, and right. Keep the exact measurements and compare them with the sizing instructions on the specific product page before ordering. Different products can require different minimum depths, deductions, or hardware clearances.
Outside-mount shades and blinds
Measure the full area you want the treatment to cover, including any desired overlap beyond the window opening. Check the product page for its recommended overlap and mounting-space requirements before choosing a finished size.
Pinch-pleat curtains
Measure the usable width of your curtain track or the span of the rod area you want the curtains to cover. Then measure from the intended hook or ring position to the desired finished length. LANTIME pinch-pleat products may already include fullness in their construction, so use the sizing guidance on the specific curtain listing rather than adding a generic fullness multiplier yourself.
Sliding-panel blinds
Measure the total width and height of the opening or coverage area. Note whether the track will mount to the wall or ceiling and confirm that there is enough clear mounting surface for the system. For unusually wide openings, review the product-specific custom-size instructions before ordering.
No-drill products
No-drill systems can have specific frame-depth, surface, and clearance requirements. Record the exact inside dimensions and frame depth, then confirm that your selected product is compatible with the opening described on its listing.
Before placing a custom order
- Re-measure the opening.
- Confirm the mount type.
- Check the product page for its exact sizing rules.
- Choose the closest available option when the listing instructs you to do so.
- Send the exact requested dimensions to LANTIME when order confirmation is required.
